Prof. Dr. Dr. hc. mult. Hans Leuenberger
Pour ses mérites en tant que président de longue date de la Société suisse des sciences pharmaceutiques, sa vision de la transformer en Académie suisse des sciences pharmaceutiques, et pour son initiative de lancement de la Journée suisse de la science pharmaceutique.
La Médaille Reichstein
La remise de la Médaille Reichstein vise à renforcer la perception et la reconnaissance des sciences pharmaceutiques auprès du grand public. Elle rend hommage aux mérites du chimiste suisse et lauréat du prix Nobel Tadeus Reichstein, qui a mis au point en 1932 la synthèse de l’acide ascorbique (vitamine C), ouvrant ainsi la voie à sa production industrielle. Pour ses travaux sur les hormones du cortex surrénalien, il reçut le prix Nobel en 1950. Tadeus Reichstein dirigea l’Institut pharmaceutique de l’Université de Bâle de 1938 à 1950.
Lauréats
La Médaille Reichstein est décernée par l’ASSPh à des personnalités reconnues internationalement, qui se sont particulièrement distinguées, de manière directe ou indirecte, dans la promotion des sciences pharmaceutiques dans les domaines de la recherche, de l’enseignement et de la pratique.
Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Katalin Karikó
L’ASSPh honore Mme Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Katalin Karikó avec la Médaille Reichstein pour ses mérites dans le développement de la technologie de l’ARN messager (ARNm). Cette technologie avait longtemps été considérée comme inadaptée pour le développement de médicaments et de vaccins. C’est grâce au travail acharné de pionniers comme Mme Prof. Karikó, mené avec persévérance et malgré de grandes résistances, que les vaccins à ARNm pour lutter contre la pandémie de COVID-19 sont devenus une réalité. En 2023, elle a reçu, conjointement avec Drew Weissman, le Prix Nobel pour cette contribution.
2021
Prof. Dr. Gerd Volkers
Prof. Gerd Folkers a reçu cette distinction prestigieuse pour ses grands mérites en tant que scientifique et enseignant universitaire, ainsi que pour ses contributions importantes à l’organisation de la formation en pharmacie dans les universités suisses. Il a été membre fondateur et premier président de la Société Suisse des Sciences Pharmaceutiques SGPhW et dirige aujourd’hui le Collegium Helveticum, une institution commune de l’ETH Zurich et de l’Université de Zurich consacrée à l’étude de nouvelles perspectives scientifiques issues de processus interdisciplinaires.
2014
Jean-Pierre Lorent
Pour la première fois, la Médaille Reichstein a été décernée pour des mérites exceptionnels dans le domaine des services pharmaceutiques. L’œuvre exceptionnelle de J.-P. Lorent a consisté à mettre en pratique les idées des pères fondateurs du Centre suisse d’information toxicologique, reconnu aujourd’hui au plan international pour son service gratuit accessible à tous et qui, depuis sa création, a contribué à sauver de nombreuses vies. Cette excellente réputation, le Centre Tox la doit notamment à J.-P. Lorent, homme à la fois très modeste et déterminé, travaillant avec rigueur et persévérance.

Werner Glatt
Werner Glatt, président honoraire et fondateur du groupe industriel Glatt, a été récompensé pour ses mérites de longue date en tant qu’entrepreneur et pour sa coopération avec les universités en vue de promouvoir les sciences pharmaceutiques.
2002
Prof. em. Dr. Richard Ernst
Prof. émérite Dr Richard R. Ernst a reçu en 1991 le Prix Nobel de chimie pour ses contributions révolutionnaires au développement de la spectroscopie par résonance magnétique nucléaire (RMN) à haute résolution, qui est ainsi devenue un outil diagnostique majeur en médecine. Après avoir obtenu son doctorat à l’ETH de Zurich en 1962, il a travaillé cinq ans en Californie, est revenu à Zurich en 1972 et est devenu professeur ordinaire à l’Institut polytechnique de Zurich en 1976. Il est décédé le 4 juin 2021.
2000
Prof. Dr. Rolf Zinkernagel
Prof. émérite Dr Rolf Martin Zinkernagel, professeur d’immunologie expérimentale à l’Université de Zurich et directeur de l’institut éponyme, a reçu en 1996, conjointement avec l’immunologiste australien Peter Doherty, le Prix Nobel de médecine. Leur découverte, sur la manière dont le système immunitaire reconnaît les cellules infectées par des virus, revêt une grande importance pour la médecine clinique. Ces connaissances permettent aux sciences pharmaceutiques de développer des vaccins entièrement nouveaux.
1997
Prof. em. Dr. William I. Higuchi
Prof. Dr. William I. Higuchi était professeur de pharmacie et de chimie pharmaceutique à l’Université de l’Utah. Il a supervisé plus de 100 doctorants et est reconnu dans le monde entier comme auteur de plus de 400 articles scientifiques et chapitres de livres, en tant que rédacteur en chef du International Journal of Pharmaceutics et pour son rôle de premier plan dans le domaine de la libération des principes actifs. Prof. Higuchi est mondialement célèbre pour sa contribution scientifique majeure au développement de modèles mécanistes des processus biologiquement pertinents.
1994
Tadeus Reichstein
De 1938 à 1950, Tadeus Reichstein a été directeur de l’Institut pharmaceutique et, de 1946 à 1960, directeur de l’Institut de chimie organique, les deux à l’Université de Bâle.
Au cours de sa carrière scientifique, il a reçu de nombreuses distinctions et récompenses. Pour l’isolement, la détermination de la structure et la synthèse de hormones importantes de la corticosurrénale, il a reçu en 1950 le Prix Nobel de médecine, qu’il partagea avec les scientifiques américains Edward C. Kendall et Philip S. Hench.
Tadeus Reichstein est décédé le 1er août 1996, peu après son 99ᵉ anniversaire.
Dans un article de la Neue Zürcher Zeitung du 23 juillet 1997, à l’occasion de son 100ᵉ anniversaire, il a été fait référence à une interview de Tadeus Reichstein dans laquelle il soulignait que les plus grands honneurs qu’il ait jamais reçus en Suisse avaient été l’attribution du Prix Marcel Benoist en 1948 et la création de la Médaille Reichstein pour mérites exceptionnels dans les sciences pharmaceutiques, par l’ancienne Société Suisse des Sciences Pharmaceutiques SGPhW.
