Education in Pharmaceutical Sciences in Switzerland (EPhSS)

Shaping the future of pharmaceutical education

The EPhSS / APhWS was established in 2020 by the Swiss Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences (SAPhS), following a proposal by pharmaSuisse. It connects all key stakeholders from universities, community and hospital pharmacies, and continuing education. The EPhSS coordinates strategic topics related to shaping pharmaceutical education in Switzerland. The organizational lead lies with the SAPhS, and Dr. Christine Moll serves as the program moderator.

Our task & objectives

🔹 Finding consensus & develop strategy
We collaboratively develop strategic proposals to advance pharmaceutical education, adapting them to the needs of our member organizations.

🔹 Development of the learning objectives catalog
We revise and optimize the learning objectives catalog to ensure a practice-oriented and forward-looking education.

🔹 Clear distinction between continuing education and professional development
We ensure a structured development of pharmaceutical competencies by clearly distinguishing between basic (undergraduate) education, and postgraduate, continuing education and professional development.

“Roundtable” platform

To foster exchange among different stakeholders and to clearly delineate basic education from postgraduate and continuing education, APhWS launched the Roundtable platform. Representatives from all educational institutions, pharmacy organizations (topPharm, Bähler Dropa, Galenicare, BENU, medbase, agfam, CAP, pharmaSuisse), and members of the SAPhS Senate Board come together to discuss current topics in pharmaceutical education.

Topics include:
🔹 Implementation of new curricula and competencies (e.g., vaccination, diagnosis & therapy)
🔹 Learning objectives catalogues & their updates
🔹 Revision of the "Weiterbildungs-Curriculums FPH"
🔹 Role & position of the Master-universities

The EPhSS / APhWS is actively committed to ensuring a viable, high-quality education in pharmaceutical sciences. Together, we are shaping the education of tomorrow!
