Die Verleihung der Reichstein-Medaille soll dazu beitragen die Wahrnehmung und Anerkennung der Pharmazeutischen Wissenschaften in der Bev\u00f6lkerung zu f\u00f6rdern. Sie erinnert an die Verdienste des Schweizer Chemikers und Nobelpreistr\u00e4gers Tadeus Reichstein, der 1932 die Synthese der Ascorbins\u00e4ure (Vitamin C) entwickelte und damit dessen industrielle Produktion erm\u00f6glichte. F\u00fcr seine Arbeiten zu den Nebennierenrindenhormonen wurde er 1950 mit dem Nobelpreis geehrt. Tadeus Reichstein leitete von 1938 bis 1950 das Pharmazeutische Institut der Universit\u00e4t Basel.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Katalin Karik\u00f3<\/a><\/h3>

Die SAPhW ehrte Frau Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Katalin Karik\u00f3 mit der Reichstein-Medaille <\/span>f\u00fcr ihre Verdienste um die Entwicklung der mRNA-Technologie. Lange wurde diese Technologie f\u00fcr die Arznei- und Impfstoffentwicklung als nicht geeignet angesehen. Es ist der unerm\u00fcdlichen Arbeit von Pionieren wie Frau Prof. Karik\u00f3, gegen grosse Widerst\u00e4nde und mit Hartn\u00e4ckigkeit durchgef\u00fchrt, zu verdanken, dass mRNA-Impfstoffe zur Bek\u00e4mpfung der Corona-Pandemie heute Realit\u00e4t geworden sind. Im Jahr 2023 erhielt sie daf\u00fcr gemeinsam mit Drew Weissman den Nobelpreis.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Prof. Dr. Gerd Volkers<\/a><\/h3>

Prof. Gerd Folkers erhielt diese bedeutende Auszeichnung f\u00fcr seine grossen Verdienste als Wissenschaftler und Universit\u00e4tsdozent, sowie f\u00fcr seine bedeutenden Beitr\u00e4ge zur Gestaltung der Pharmazie-Ausbildung an den Schweizer Universit\u00e4ten. Er war Gr\u00fcndungsmitglied und erster Pr\u00e4sident der SGPhW und leitet heute das Collegium Helveticum, eine von der ETH Z\u00fcrich und der Universit\u00e4t Z\u00fcrich gemeinsam getragene Einrichtung zur Erforschung neuer wissenschaftlicher Perspektiven aus interdisziplin\u00e4ren Prozessen.\n<\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Jean-Pierre Lorent<\/a><\/h3>

Zum ersten Male wurde die Reichstein-Medaille f\u00fcr \u00fcberragende Verdienste in pharmazeutischen Dienstleistungen verliehen. J.-P. Lorent's ausserordentliches Lebenswerk bestand in der Umsetzung der Ideen der Gr\u00fcndungsv\u00e4ter des Schweizer Toxikologischen Informationszentrums, welches heute international f\u00fcr seinen kostenlosen Service f\u00fcr jedermann anerkannt ist und seit seiner Gr\u00fcndung\ngeholfen hat, zahlreiche Menschenleben zu retten. Diesen hervorragenden Ruf hat das Tox-Zentrum nicht zuletzt dem in seiner Art sehr bescheidenen, aber auch zielstrebig und hart arbeitendem J.-P. Prof. em. Dr. Richard Ernst<\/a><\/h3>

Prof. em. Dr. Richard R. Ernst erhielt 1991 den Chemie-Nobelpreis f\u00fcr seine bahnbrechenden Beitr\u00e4ge zur Entwicklung der hochaufl\u00f6senden magnetischen Kernresonanz-Spektroskopie (NMR), die damit zu einem bedeutenden diagnostischen Werkzeug der Medizin wurde. Nach seiner Promotion bei der ETH in Z\u00fcrich im Jahre 1962, arbeitete er f\u00fcnf Jahre in Kalifornien, kehrte 1972 nach Z\u00fcrich zur\u00fcck und wurde im Jahre 1976 Ordentlicher Professor am Polytechnischen Institut Z\u00fcrich. Prof. em. Dr. Rolf Martin Zinkernagel, Professor f\u00fcr experimentelle Immunologie an der Universit\u00e4t Z\u00fcrich und Direktor des gleichnamigen Instituts, wurde im Jahre 1996, gemeinsam mit dem australischen Immunologen Peter Doherty, mit dem Nobelpreis f\u00fcr Medizin ausgezeichnet. Ihre Entdeckung, wie das Immunsystem virusinfizierte Zellen erkennt, ist f\u00fcr die klinische Medizin von grosser Bedeutung. Ihre Erkenntnisse erlauben der Pharmazeutischen Wissenschaft die Entwicklung v\u00f6llig neuer Impfstoffe.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Prof. Dr. William I. Higuchi war Professor f\u00fcr Pharmazie und Pharmazeutische Chemie and der Universit\u00e4t von Utah. Er hat \u00fcber 100 Doktoranden betreut und ist weltweit bekannt als Autor von mehr als 400 wissenschaftlichen Artikel und Buchkapiteln, als Herausgeber des Fachmagazins \"International Journal of Pharmaceutics\" und seine f\u00fchrende Rolle auf dem Gebiet der Wirkstoff-Freisetzung. Prof. Higuchi ist durch seinen bedeutenden wissenschafltichen Beitrag hinsichtlich der Entwicklung mechanistischer Modelle biologisch relevanter Prozesse weltweit bekannt.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Von 1938 bis 1950 war Tadeus Reichstein<\/a> Leiter des Pharmazeutischen Instituts und von 1946 bis 1960 Leiter des Instituts f\u00fcr Organische Chemie, beides an der Universit\u00e4t Basel.<\/p>

W\u00e4hrend seiner wissenschaftlichen Laufbahn wurde er mit vielen Ehrungen und Auszeichnungen bedacht. F\u00fcr die Isolierung, Strukturaufkl\u00e4rung und Synthese wichtiger Hormone der Nebennierenrinde erhielt er 1950 den Nobelpreis f\u00fcr Medizin, den er mit den amerikanischen Wissenschaftlern Edward. C. Kendall und Philip S. Hench teilte.<\/p>
